Golfing has always seemed very boring to me. It's a sport that appears to move at a snail's pace, and without motorized windmills and fake pagodas to maneuver your ball around, really, what's the point? But while we were in Pismo I wanted to plan things that Nick would enjoy. And for some reason, golf came to mind.
So I tried my hand at golf, real golf, not mini-golf, and I have to admit that I had a lot of fun. Driving the ball is the best part. You get to smack the golf ball, in a controlled fashion, as hard as you can down the fairway. I'm sure that's not the official strategy - to hit the ball as hard as you can - but that's essentially what I did and it was exhilarating.
I started out a little rocky. I think I had bad aim. Every time I would swing, I would miss my ball by a mile. Nick raised the tee up, though, and I quickly improved. Having never played before it was still slow going for me, so we ended up letting this nice couple go in front of us. Not only was it the courteous thing to do, but it also alleviated some of my nerves. I felt bad holding them up, so I would rush my swing and end up sucking even more than I really should have.
In the end, I wasn't good by any means, but I improved along the way and had a blast. It's definitely something I'll do again. Of course I'll have to find a cute golfing outfit first.
As an aside, did you know that women tee off in front of men? As in, the tee box for a man is several feet behind the woman's tee box? Because women "can't hit it as far as men." The inequality, I tell you.
You look like a natural. I think skorts would be cute on you for sure:)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mom :) I'll have to keep my eyes out for something cute!
ReplyDeleteI cried the first (and last) time I played golf. Old men who can't get into the country club and have to play 9 holes at Roseville Rolling Greens are MEAN. Good for you for trying!
ReplyDeleteSheri, that sounds horrible! If you're so inclined, you'll have to give it a go again somewhere else. There's gotta be another place that people don't take it too seriously... or try on a Monday morning in the fall in Pismo :) OR, just go to the driving range and hit some balls. I did that a few years ago with Nick (and would like to do it again). Gets out some pent up aggression (if you have any). And you can go at your own pace.
